Saturday, August 22nd, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Galveston Bookshop will host a book signing on Saturday, August 22nd from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with globe-trotting writer and prolific water-colorist Maria Elena Sandovici.
Stray Dogs and Lonely Beaches, her second novel, is about a young woman’s journey from Bucharest to New York, Cancun, and Paris, in pursuit of the love that has eluded her all her life. Alina Ionescu inhabits a world that seems hostile, where dangers – real or imagined – lurk at every turn, men are indifferent and elusive, and the relationships between women are fraught with jealousy, hurt feelings and malicious gestures.
Her first novel, Dogs with Bagels, is a story about the American Dream gone bad. It is also a story of mothers and daughters, female friendships, the struggle to survive in one of the world’s most expensive cities, and complicated relationships between the exes.
Maria Elena Sandovici was born in Bucharest, a city she loves and can never stay away from for too long. Her desire for adventure led her to make new homes in New York, Barcelona, and Galveston, Texas. Her travels inspire her to paint, blog, and write novels about people who are either homesick and nostalgic, or experience a perpetual need to flee. She also paints as she travels and posts watercolors to her blog, havewatercolorswilltravel.blogspot.com.
