Friday, August 28th from 5-7pm
Kris Rutherford joins us with his two local baseball histories: The Galveston Buccaneers, and Baseball on the Prairie.
The recently published The Galveston Buccaneers covers Shearn Moody’s purchase of the Buccaneers in 1931, and the development of a languishing squad into a dominating force which won the 1934 Texas League Championship. The book takes a look at the Moody family, a team of talented players, and the island city that rallied around them, and weaves it all into a captivating must-read history for baseball fans all over Texas and beyond. 170 pages with many photographs and illustrations.
Published in 2014, Baseball on the Prairie is subtitled, “How Seven Small-Town Teams Shaped Texas League History,” and covers the early days of the league and the people and towns that made this centuries-old institution possible. Teams from Sherman, Denison, Paris, Corsicana, Cleburne, Greenville and Temple are the focus of this detailed history with photographs.
