Jan Johnson’s second guidebook to historic Galveston Island is now complete!  Please join us for a Book Launch on Saturday, December 8, at the Bienville Social from 2 – 5 pm, where Jan will give a presentation and sign copies of the book.

With an ambitious goal of including all that was left out of the her first guide, the driving guide begins where the first left off, covering Harborside Drive from 33rd to 14th Streets. From there, wandering readers will travel the Island’s streets from the port to the gulf, meandering in and out of the mostly Victorian East End. In addition to walking some parts of several concentrated areas, readers will park and walk the downtown “Arts and Entertainment” Postoffice District and the Broadway Cemetery.

The driving guide will then travel west to the airport through several mid-town middle-class neighborhoods, before leading “excursionists” “Down the Island” to Jamaica Beach.  They will then return to the city proper via the Seawall and a circuitous route through the Lasker and Kempner Park neighborhoods before completing their journey into the past by driving to the very eastern tip of the Seawall and even onto the sand, if they choose.

Bienville Social is at 323 23rd street, right next door to the book shop.

Update: Jan Johnson signs her new book at the Book Launch.
