When his goal is complicated by a closely guarded family secret, and his ambitions are impeded by injury and misfortune, his life seems to fall apart. Manny&#8217;s journey isn&#8217;t over however, and he pushes forward, eventually learning that family and community can provide the strength and motivation needed to persevere. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The Night of the Virgin<\/em>\u201d is told in four parts of varying style and points of view, providing a pulsating look at the Mexican-American community&#8217;s struggles with poverty, alcoholism, and infidelity. Through the story of a brash young man who matures into a loving father, the book addresses the topics of identity and acceptance, hatred and love.<br \/>\n<br style=\"clear:left\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Elliott Turner<\/strong> has covered sports, politics and culture as a freelance journalist with bylines in The Guardian, VICE Sports, Howler Magazine, The Blizzard, and others. \u201c<em>The Night of the Virgin<\/em>\u201d is his first novel.
