In 1973, Delpha Wade is released from prison where she served fourteen years for killing the man who raped her. The time inside was enough to hone her secretarial skills at the prison school, but nobody in Beaumont, Texas is eager to hire a convict. But persistence and smarts land her a secretarial job with Tom Phelan, an ex-roughneck turned neophyte private eye. Together they begin to pry into some of the dark corners of Beaumont. The novel’s conclusion is classic noir, full of surprise, excitement, and karmic justice.

The Do-Right is Lisa Sandlin’s first full-length mystery novel. Lisa was born in Beaumont and currently lives and teaches in Omaha, Nebraska, and summers in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
